Why Choose Therapy?

Sometimes we might find it helpful to talk about our problems with a friend or family member, but there may be occasion’s when friends and family cannot help us and we need to talk to a professional therapist.Therapy involves talking to someone who is trained to help you deal with your negative feelings. They can help anyone who is experiencing distress. You do not have to be told by a doctor that you have a mental health problem to be offered or benefit from therapy.

A therapist is somebody who is able to use the tools and knowledge they have to help you make changes in your life.  Your therapist should understand what it is like to be in therapy!
Therapy gives people the chance to explore their thoughts and feelings and the effect they have on their behaviour and mood. Describing what's going on in your head and how that makes you feel can help you notice any patterns which it may be helpful to change.

This may all focus on things that are happening in our lives right now, however could also be about things from our past that we want to talk about and understand.  Therapy can help people to take greater control of their lives and improve their confidence.

Other words people use to describe therapy are:

  • psychological therapies or treatments
  • psychotherapy.

There are many different types of therapy and people with a range of different qualifications and training.  It is important to do some research and to ask about a therapists level of training to ensure they are right for you and have the right training .

  1. Individual CBT
    Individual CBT can help you to stop negative cycles of thoughts, behaviour and emotions by helping you to notice what is making you feel anxious, unhappy or frightened and helping you to manage these factors.
  2. Individual Integrative Therapy
    I am trained in other therapies, such as Person Centred Counselling and Attachment theory. You might prefer therapy that allows you more time and space to explore your past ,without necessarily being goal and solution focused like CBT.
  3. Student Therapist Package
    Many therapists in training are required to access personal therapy themselves. I offer a competitive package of sessions at a reduced rate in these cases
